Ok, here is a question for you: Does anyone know of a System V which runs on Vaxen? In particular we have a Vax 11/780, a 11/785 and an 8600 on which we would like to run System V R 3, if possible. Right now the 11/785 is running System 5 which is derived from our source licensed code from ATT, plus many device drivers contributed from various people. The system is real kludgy. In particular, you can not use the tape drive & ethernet at the same time. They are now converting the 11/780 to this same version of SYS V. The 8600 is running Ultrix 1.2, and doing quite fine. Personally, I am from the Berkeley camp, and would just as soon see BSD 4.3 on all the Vaxen. However, there are certain System V proponents in management, and I need to get work done. The 11/780 has been down a week, and we have been wasting good in house engineering talent trying to get the machine up. Hence, this apeal: Do you know of a good system 5 implementation for a vax 11/780, 11/785, and (perhaps, but less likely, ) an 8600? Please mail me your replys. They have Unix System V upto Release 2. They don't want to implement SysV rel.3 because AT&T does not support that any more for VAXen. They have NFS. A few of our customers run NUXI, they are satisfied.
