This line == can or raid Help! I have been given a Datacopy model 230 scanner with a scsi interface card and have been told to make it work with 1) a Microport AT machine and 2) an IBM RT. I'll worry about the Microport first, since I don't have to deal with the RT's VRM. This job is complicated by the fact that I don't have any technical docs for the scanner (yet). I do have some pascal (ugh) code provided by the Datacopy folks supposedly for a System V machine. Almost certainly, all of the low level references have no relevance to the driver that I want to build in C. Furthermore, the scsi interface card is a DMA device, and I have no clue as to how to access it short of hacking the kernel, quite a bit over my head (but hey, you have to learn some time). My questions are: a) has anyone attempted interfacing a scanner to unix before? b) can anyone lead me in the right direction in terms of DMA accessing schemes? c) Does the driver have to be linked into the kernel? d) Can anyone suggest literature on these subjects? Please send me mail (path below), as my normal news connection is going to end as of May 31, hopefully a temporary condition. Robert C. White, Jr. Graphics Information, Inc.
