[comp.unix.wizards] vax 8500 problem.

Rminnich@UDEL.EDU (06/25/87)

We have a Vax 8500, running Ultricks 1.2, and are having some weird
troubles. It has 20 Mb of memory and a total of 66Mb swap space.
When we get a macsyma, an emacs, and a couple other processes running
so that the total real memory used is around 13 Mb or so, programs
stop working, for example:
cc: cannot find /lib/cpp
top: bad address in proc table
ps: bus error, core dumped
and a host of other strange problems. Get rid of enough programs
to free up some 'core' and the problems stop. We have tried /usr/field/memx
and it gets no errors, except it cannot run when more than 13 Mb
of real storage is in use. We kind of think this is an Ultrix problem,
not a hardware problem, but we are a baffled.
   Anybody seen this?
