I'm running ultrix 1.2 on a 750. I have a nice 785 that I'm trying to upgrade onto, but I keep running into problems. The unix kernel is generated to support both the 750 and 785. In theory, all I should have to do is move the massbus cable over the the 785 and reboot. In practise, things are not so nice. Everything seems to work ok until I go multi-user, things still seem ok, but sooner or later I start getting disk errors and programs that don't run. Doing an fsck reveals that the mounted file systems have been corrupted in a peculiar fashion. It seems that 0x1000 is being or'ed into either the i-node link count or the high order word of one of the disk address fields. I've tried many things, including rebuilding from the original distribution tape, changing the config parameters and setting up artificial disk beating scripts, but haven't been able to eliminate or pin down the problem. Hardware problems were initially suspected and some were found, but they have apparently been corrected. Do these symptoms ring any bells with any Ultrix or BSD experts? I'm at my wit's end and need to get Ultrix established on the 785 before the powers that be decide they might as well just run VMS on it. 8-( -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|seismo|rutgers}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@seismo.css.GOV Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)
