[comp.unix.wizards] Help! Installing 4.3BSD on a uVAX

woerz@iaoobelix.UUCP (07/24/87)

Hello Netlanders,

We recently got 4.3BSD on tapes and want to put it onto a uVAX
currently running VMS. The uVAX is equipped with a TC02 Tape
controller connected to a Cypher Tape. The TC02 emulates a TS11 to
the uVAX. The disk is a Fujitsu M2333K (280MB) on a QD32 Controller
from Emulex. Furthermore, there is a double RX50 floppy drive. The
uVAX is not networked at all.

Now the problem is to load the Tapes onto the disk, because the beast
cannot be booted off the tape. I tried it with the bootstrap loader
out of the installation manual, with no sucess. I tried to write the
a boot block on a floppy and the first file from the 4.3 tapes as
boot file onto a file system on the floppy, still with no sucess. The
same, when I copied the contents of the first file from the 4.3 tapes
as boot file onto the floppy, same effect.

Now I don't have a idea, as I couldn't find someone the Ultrix on
floppies. Even DEC doesn't have them.

Hope you can help me.

Please reply by mail, as I don't read this list too often.

Thanks in advance
