I've encountered a problem in linking rn on our Sperry 5000/80 that has stumped everyone I've asked, even the gurus at Sperry. I had rn running on our system, and in fact originally had no trouble getting it to compile and link. One day I decided to recompile rn, (only changing our postal address to include our zip code in the Configure script), and out of the blue received the following error message in the linking phase: "ld fatal: 32-Bit TV relocation value is out of bounds! (> 16 Mbytes)" The Sperry response was that the error was possibly caused by corrupt object code. I removed all the .o files and started from scratch, but still ended up with the same error. Sperry also thought that there might be a problem with our compiler or linker, but no one on our system has reported any such problems. Also, about 10 days after the problem appeared, our kernel was remade, but even that had no effect; I still got the same error message. Has anyone had a problem like this, whether or not it involved rn? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Here's where I can be reached (we're not really on usenet yet). seismo.css.gov!thelis@almsa-1.arpa Tom Helis ph (314) 263-5118 ALMSA av 693-5118 attn: amxal-ow PO box 1578 St. Louis, MO 63188-1578 Tom Helis
