[comp.unix.wizards] NFS on IBM 3380s

alan@mn-at1.UUCP (Alan Klietz) (09/06/87)

Is anyone working on a NFS server that runs on Big Blue? I asked about
6 months ago, and heard nothing. Now it's time to ask again.

The new IBM 3380 disks are a big, fast, reliable, and (cheap in quantity)
source of disk storage. (3.75 Gbytes/spindle) "Buy 'em by the gigabyte."

A natural idea would be to use IBM 3380 disks for an NFS implementation.
Not for EBCDIC MVS datasets, or flat CMS file systems, but for real UNIX
file systems.

Okay, so here at the Minnesota Supercomputer Center, we're ramping up a
project to overhaul the Extended File System (XFS) to become NFS-compatible.
But, before we go too far, I want to know what other NFS implementations are
being worked on.

(Sorry, NFS through a 50kbit/sec TCP/IP DACU won't cut it.)

I'll post a summary. Thanks in advance.
