We have been experiencing a lot of uucp TIMEOUT failures in the past few months. We're running 4.3 BSD and since we've noticed the problem with a lot of different sites (ihnp4, uunet, a local 3B1, etc.) that are running (I assume) a varitey of uucp flavors, both local, long distance and for uunet via Tymnet, I was wondering if the problem was on our end. For example, here is a sample of an attempt to transfer a single file last night: (each time the file transfer appears to die at about the same point) > uucp uunet (10/25-18:30-1425) SUCCEEDED (call to uunet ) > uucp uunet (10/25-18:30-1425) OK (startup cua0 1200 baud) > uucp uunet (10/25-18:30-1425) REQUESTED (S D.uunetBDYb2 D.uunetSDYb2 root) > root uunet (10/25-18:34-1425) FAILED (conversation complete) > root uunet (10/25-18:35-1425) TIMEOUT (uunet) > > uucp uunet (10/25-21:30-1681) SUCCEEDED (call to uunet ) > uucp uunet (10/25-21:30-1681) OK (startup cua0 1200 baud) > uucp uunet (10/25-21:30-1681) REQUESTED (S D.uunetBDYb2 D.uunetSDYb2 root) > root uunet (10/25-21:35-1681) FAILED (conversation complete) > root uunet (10/25-21:36-1681) TIMEOUT (uunet) > > uucp uunet (10/26-00:30-3608) SUCCEEDED (call to uunet ) > uucp uunet (10/26-00:30-3608) OK (startup cua0 1200 baud) > uucp uunet (10/26-00:30-3608) REQUESTED (S D.uunetBDYb2 D.uunetSDYb2 root) > root uunet (10/26-00:35-3608) FAILED (conversation complete) > root uunet (10/26-00:35-3608) TIMEOUT (uunet) With the local site I've noticed the problem happens regardless of which end initiates the conversation. Any ideas of anything to look at on my end ?? Richard Stevens Health Systems International, New Haven, CT { uunet | ihnp4 } ! hsi ! stevens
