Does anyone know of a currently existing public domain or otherwise free utility program or programs which will run on a Sperry 5000 model 80 under UNIX System V and do the following: 1 - Read a multi-reel tape dataset encoded in EBCDIC with standard IBM labels. 2 - Convert the above dataset to ASCII. 3 - Here is the hook. These records will be what we refer to as 'truly variable'. That is, they consist of a fixed length header portion and one or more (but always at least one) trailer portions which may be of different lengths. [Example - a 50 byte header with three trailer portions. One is 15 bytes in length. The second is 30 and the last is 9 bytes in length. If we have to, we can write something ourselves. But we are pushing a deadline and don't want to reinvent the wheel. Thanks ahead of time -- Glenda Stubblefield USALMSA St. Louis, MO
