Anybody had trouble making sendmail (latest Berkeley version) log activity in syslog? I have just tried on a SUN-3/280 running SUNOS 3.4 amd on Ultrix 2.0. Before I look futher into the problem I would like to check out if this is a known bug/feature. T S Lande University of Oslo arpa:bassen@ifi.uio.no

I tried to mail this, but news gave me a bogus path. Make sure that the machine(s) that you want logging to occur on say loghost in /etc/hosts. For example, we do all our sendmail logging on sunbar: 128.109.148.1 dukebar dukebar.mc.duke.edu dukebar-lan 128.109.148.2 sunbar sunbar.mc.duke.edu loghost ... Without the loghost entry, no logging is done. I ran into this on a Sun under 3.2. I beleive that the 4.3bsd syslog has a new argument. Use the syslog that came with BIND (the name server) or recompile sendmail with the #define LOG in conf.h commented out. Of course, this means no logging... -Matt -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UUCP: {ihnp4,pyramid,akgua}!iuvax!burdick ARPA: burdick@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu Matt Burdick ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
