The book "The Design of the Unix* Operating System" lists two different scheduling algorithms on page 269. They are from the Sixth Edition UNIX and Seventh Edition. What others are there besides these and System 5. What do these algorithms favor and/or discriminate against? Does it make all that much difference which algorithm is used? Maybe you can give me an idea of what works well under various scenarios and what doesn't. I am especially interested in real time data collection systems that are also computationally intensive.
