[comp.unix.wizards] User Interface update

KEN%ORION.BITNET@wiscvm.wisc.EDU (Kenneth Ng) (11/04/87)

In an earlier posting I had complained about AT&T re-writing TERMCAP
as TERMINFO.  I did not know that they were written by the same person;
Mark Horton, when he was at Berkeley and AT&T. Thanks to John Owens
<owensj@vtvm1.bitnet> for pointing this out.

Bill Joy wrote termcap (and vi).
Ken Arnold wrote curses (and rogue w. Michael Toy)
Mark Horton wrote terminfo (and lots of stuff at Berkeley)
Mark Horton re-implemented curses with terminfo.
Pavel Curtis re-implemented terminfo (and ported TeX to Unix)
Mark Horton re-reimplemented terminfo using parts of Pavel Curtis' code
(Maybe it was just 'tic', but I'm not sure)
Berkeley stole the code for vcat (guts of vtroff) from MIT who stole
it from the Univ. of Toronto.

There you have the story.
