I am posting this note for a friend. Please reply directly to him (address at bottom). If that is not possible, reply to me and I will forward. -=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=---= Help!! A while ago (a long time ago?) on the net, there was a discussion about problems in connecting Ultrix to other systems via uucp. At the time, of course, I wasn't interested in such things, but now.... We're running Ultrix V1.1 on a Micro-vax II. The problem is that when the Ultrix is at the receiving end of a uucp phone call, it (or won't) verify the legality of the calling end. I have the proper entries in /usr/lib/uucp/USERFILE, as far as I can tell, and have even created a file called INSECURE to try to force the connection to go through, all to no avail. The message that gets put in /usr/spool/uucp/LOGFILE is "FAILED (LOGIN VS MACHINE)". By perusing a "-x9" dump on both sides, the only things I've come up with is that the calling side (an HP 9000) sends the string "RLOGIN" at some point during the initial setup, whereas the Ultrix machine doesn't have that string anywhere in its binary (sorry, we're a binary-only site). The version of uucico is 1.3 (as best I can make out -- version number of cico.c?). Anyone who has access to the archives of this problem, or who happened to be caught by it and can tell me the fix, I'd certainly appreciate it! Please reply to "DANIEL@BNR.NETNORTH" if at all possible -- until this gets fixed, we're off the usenet-air! Thanks. Daniel Zlatin, Bell-Northern Research, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
