[comp.unix.wizards] Finding the number of inodes

kjelle@erialfa.UUCP (Kjell Eriksson) (01/14/88)

Is there any other way to find out how many inode (total) there are
in a filesystem than reading the superblock and then do:

number of cylinder groups * number of inodes per group

I run SunOS 3.2 (BSD type) on a Sun3.

I'm trying to estimate how large a dump(8) will be, before I run it
and dump(8) will write 2 bitmaps of indodes.

Thanks in advance.

Kjell E.

If you have the diskfree (df) utility, run 'df -i' which
will return inodes used, inodes free, % inodes used and
all the the mounted file systems.
