Our two vaxs recently had a microcode upgrade (125 -> 126) which included a new standard console floppy. Oddly the standard console floppy booted on one vax (purchased in '85), but not on the other (purchased in '82). When I say booted I mean we toggled the lsi11's dc, and expecting the microcode to load and the console command mode prompt, >>>. The older vax didn't budge at all, nothing on the console. Reasoning that the first sector (or more?) contained some boot info (rt11 days), we made a new floppy by flcopy'ing the first 3 tracks from a working floppy, then arff'ing all the files from the upgrade floppy. Voila! Maybe the older vax missed an lsi11 boot rom upgrade? The field engineer insists the two vaxs have the same lsi11 boot rom (located on one of the vax's cpu cards via an extension of the lsi11's bus). Can anyone can shed some light on this mystery?
