[comp.unix.wizards] POSIX Draft for UNIX

mlaufer@cct.bbn.com (Michael Laufer) (06/02/88)

Could someone please tell me how I can get a copy of the POSIX Draft that
deals with the standard for UNIX. I believe it is IEEE 1003 Draft 12.
I have not been reading this list recently so I may have missed this
information.

Please reply directly. Thanks in advance.

I don't think this info has been up on the net in a while. So I'm posting
it. The address IEEE gives if you're interested in participating in new
standards efforts seems also to be the location that Draft 12.3 of P1003.1
will be available. It's a 400+ page document and will undoubtedly cost
$$money$$ for printing and delivery.

The POSIX draft standard can be ordered from the IEEE at:

IEEE Service Center
445 Hoes Lane, P.O. Box 1331
Piscataway, NJ 08855-1331

or you can call 201-562-5346 between 8 and 4 EST and place a credit card order.

It is listed as `1003.1 (Draft American National Standard) Trial-Use
Standard Portable Operating System for Computer Environments.'
The order number is SH10546. The standard costs $23 plus shipping and
tax if you are in New Jersey. IEEE members get 30% off the price.

The standard can also be ordered from Global Engineering Documents,
(800)854-7179.

Hope this helps.

Caution:

The Trial-Use Standard is a quite different document from the Draft
that is currently being balloted. (Among other things it's about
1/2 as thick as the draft, due as much to formatting changes as
to content).

The current draft is not generally available at this time, as it is
not a published document. It is still an "internal use only" draft.
When it is approved (very soon, I hope) and the printing process
completes, it will be available as an IEEE and ANSI standard.

The addresses given here are correct to order the Trial-Use standard.

You do *NOT* want this book; it is over a year out of date. This is the
"Trial-Use" standard, not the Draft Full-Use standard that is nearing
approval.

I have no idea what this version might be.

The response from Ian Kluft gives a channel to get the correct document.
