The question has been raised by some of our exploratory groups that we should determine the amount of effort we use in maintaining some of our non-telecom OSes (i.e. proprietary OSes without real real-time requirements) vs the amount we would require to port and maintain a more industry-standard (half :-) here) OS like UNIX. As I have network access, I got elected to ask. Here goes: We have the information regarding our own OS efforts; what I need help with is the time/effort (person-years of work) required to: - port either BSD or SysV to a new platform, and - port new releases to this platform. Anyone willing to hazard some numbers? Thanks... ---tpc--- As is more-or-less standard practise, I will summarize to the net... Disclaimer: This statement may have been true at the time of writing.
