[comp.unix.wizards] Porting NQS to Sun4 architecture

leight@neptune.AMD.COM (Tim Leight) (09/16/88)

Hi,

I am trying to port the NASA's NQS (network queuing system) to
the Sun4. Is there anyone who has done this and can give me pointers
on what needs to modified. I am targetting SunOS v4 but experience
with any version of SunOS will be more than appreciated.

thanks in advance

Is NQS the same as BBN's MDQS (Multi Device Queueing System)?

I ported MDQS to 4.3bsd and SunOS 2.0 and such, and made mods for it to talk
to a laser printer and a PUP network.

First of all, MDQS was developed at BRL, not BBN.

Next, NQS started as modifications to MDQS at a national lab,
and was "borrowed" by outside contractors who conveniently
forgot that it wasn't theirs and now claim that it is. I
don't know what's supposed to be "better" about NQS.

You can still get MDQS from BRL. We use it all the time for
multi-queue, multi-device spooling on our campus-area network.
