[comp.unix.wizards] UNIX-WIZARDS Digest V7#033

Michael_Krause.henr801E@xerox.com (03/28/89)

I expect to get (mostly if not completely) geers, jabbs and ridicule from
this message but here goes. I'm looking for source code for a Wordstar
type editor for Unix 3.1 System V. Any takers? vi and I get along alright
but I grew (part way) up with MS-DOS and, well, you know...
Thanx

You stone, you clod, you worse than senseless thing! What a stupid
question!

There, not that you have the abuse you crave, how about a (somewhat)
useful answer: get a copy of MicroEMACS and customize the keystrokes and
macros to look like Wordstar. This will (a) give you the editor you
think you want, (b) teach you something about simple emacs bindings and
macros, and (c) probably convert you to emacs on UNIX and DOS.

If you want more abuse I can forward some recent flames I got in another
group...

Why not just write a Z-80 emulator and use the CP/M version?
A friend (garyk@telxon) did this and it runs just fine.

If you like, I have a GNU emacs configuration which goes quite a ways
to defining the wordstar keyset under emacs. There are differences in
block commands and line-killing because I was lazy, but it works well
enough.

Email if you would like it.

[Note: yes, it's a gawdawful thing to configure emacs like that but
as a heavy user of both keysets, lemme tell you the wordstar one is
much better if you touchtype or if meta is not supported on your
terminal.]
