AT&T has announced that SVR4.0 will contain the POSIX P1003.1 truncate() and ftruncate() routines: this makes the previous sound risky to me, however, those routines are going to be library functions built on top of the fcntl system call, according to what they have told us, so my guess is that there is a good chance that the undocumented fcntl may become supported.
