root@graffiti.UUCP (Maintenance Account) (08/23/85)
This site has actually been up on Usenet since back in May. We've just been observing and getting familiar with things until now. I know of several other public access sites on the net, but this one is a little different. I would appreciate feedback from all of the moss-backs out there, or even the relative noephytes. I guess this makes us official. Name of site. graffiti What the site is all about. Information Brokerage Network Public access site. Graffiti is paid for by advertising. Users have free access to Unix and Usenet by virtue of companies paying to get their name (and a very tangible symbol of their support) out to computer users. Access to graffiti is (713)488-3001 at 300/1200 baud. Login as 'guest' to set up an account name. There is a simple bulletin board front end to filter out the kiddiewinks with modems from Usenet. Serious users can leave mail for 'root' stating who they are and that they want access to Unix and/or Usenet. The only price for admission is that you watch the ads go by when you first login (and of course show your appreciation for getting something for nothing by sending your business to the supporting companies). There are also plans to build a database of goods, services, and product specs/evaluations for easy reference; an archive of public domain source files; and whatever else the user population desires. Would be glad to feed additional sites as needed; however, we will be converting to a new (and bigger) system soon. So all arrangements will have to be after ~October 1, '85.
