Question concerning process traffic control: I am enhancing a multi-user database to increase the speed of our database transactions. We developed the database ourselves and hope to improve the marketablity of the product. However we have run into several complications in porting the software to UNIX. Currently I am investigating the utilities available within UNIX to provide process locking for the multi-user system. In past revisions we used a database server process that enabled the database administrator to prioritize database access. This provided functional database service, but transaction processing was required to be synchronous. We are hoping that we can improve our database speed by using database access locks to provide asynchronous transaction processing. The problem is we have yet to find an elegant process lock within UNIX. What possible solutions exist for this problem?
