Why does ftpd want ~ftp/etc/{passwd,groups} for anonymous ftp (at least in SunOS)? Ftp needs /etc/passwd and /etc/groups (Does SunOS really use /etc/groups instead of /etc/group? Interesting.) so that when it runs /bin/ls for the "dir" command, ls can look up UID's and GID's and display the owners of the files being listed. -- Jonathan Kamens USnail: MIT Project Athena 11 Ashford Terrace jik@Athena.MIT.EDU Allston, MA 02134 Office: 617-253-8085 Home: 617-782-0710 P.S.
