I don't know why you need that documentation, but if you just need a
fully documented library with that functionality, you may try GDBM,
the GNU version of DBM. It comes, of course, with full source code,
which should be sufficient documentation :-)
(I think it uses a different format than the standard DBM - in case
there is a "standard" format at all, I don't know)
