I've been using my IBM/PC-XT for 2 years now with very few parity errors. However after I installed VENIX (yet another UNIX) I started getting parity errors constantly. The VENIX technical support told me that VENIX exercises the memory a little more thouroughly than PCDOS so it's probabely my memory board. I also ran the diagnostic disk that came with the computer but no parity errors showed up. Now for the questions. 1) Why doesn't the power on test find this? 2) Doesn't the diagnostic disk exercise the memory? 3) Are there any public domain memory tests I could get? 4) Are there any commercial memory tests I could buy? 5) Is there a good reference for generic memory tests if I have to write my own?
