Is Nestle finally shaping up? Does this mean that I can finally buy a Nestle's Crunch bar again? (My wife and I haven't had one in years and we both love them.) Oh Boy! ---------------------------------------------------------------- NESTLE POLICY New guidelines issued by infant formula company. The Nestle company has issued new guidelines to comply with the World Health Organization's voluntary international code limiting the use of infant formula. The guidelines specify that a doctor must request free samples of infant formula and pass them along to mothers, rather than the mother receiving the samples directly from Nestle. The company will redesign product labels and pamphlets in the next year to meet code standards. According to the New York Times, Nestle, S.A., the world's largest supplier of infant formula, apparently was seeking to end a FIVE-YEAR (!!!!) boycott by 70 U.S. organizations. These groups boycotted every Nestle product and service to protest the company's practice of promoting the formula by giving free samples directly to mothers ill equipped to use them properly. The practices of diluting the formula and using polluted water reportedly have caused high rates of infant disease and death among some users. The boycott committee responded to the Nestle move with caution, saying it would wait and see how the new guidelines were interpreted. ---------------- The Lutheran Standard, May 7, 1982
