[comp.sources.wanted] Multi-user talk program

slindahl@udenva.UUCP (Steve "Mr. MBA" Lindahl) (01/21/87)

I am interested in developing a multi-user talk program for our school. The
old one that we had was such a CPU hog that we erased it. I would appreciate
it if someone could let me know if they have the source code for such a
program. I would like to take a look at it and maybe get a few ideas. We
are currently running BSD4.2 and will be using BSD4.3 in a few months.

			thanks in advance...

Does anyone out there have a multi-user chat program for SysV and/or
SCO XENIX? I have seen party on other machines but was not too fond
of it. It would be nice to have something with most of the features
of Diversi Dial (TM)(R)(C) which is run on a lowly Apple.

I have nothing against Apple //e's - I just wouldn't buy one.

I would also be VERY interested in something like this. I've never
seen 'party'. What's it like? Please let me know if anybody knows of
any type of multi-user talk or chat program of any kind. Thanks!

I would like any information on any of the programs that allow comunications
to transpire through means other than the write facility in SYSV Unix.

Before everyone starts another round of me-too and the like,
let me point out that there are TWO different talk-like
programs written just for System V sitting in the mod.sources
archives. They are called sysVtalkA and sysVtalkB. One
uses named pipes (FIFOs) and the other uses message passing.
Even if you don't want 'talk', these programs are rather
good examples of using these facilities under System V.
These programs do NOT work over networks, but then if you
had networks, you probibly have BSD... :-)
