I am considering writing a mailer, to be used across multiple machines running different versions of un*x. The type of mailer i would like to put into use here would use one machine as a "mail host". Rather than have a seperate mail spool on each machine, mail would do an rpc to the mail host. Mail sent to any user on any machine would end up on the host, and eliminate the need to check mail on multiple machines. Now, before I reinvent the wheel, has someone already done something like this, or started a project such as this that a person could hack on during off times? We have 10 various un*x machines on our local network, and the idea of rsh'ing to them all to read mail is ok, but the mail handler i describe above would make life just that much simpler. So, if anyone has written such a mailer, or has a pointer to someone that has, please email me at the address below. And, as always, thanks in advance! -john salmi -minnesota supercomputer center, inc. -minneapolis internet: john@rei-uc.arpa -or- john@uc.msc.umn.edu uucp: ihnp4!umn-cs!john@umn-rei-uc.arpa
