In the summer when it's humid, the recipe works better with 2 tbsp or so of butter and less karo.
The Rum is to taste, really.
It's a bit odd, but the recipe is two different animals at 75 F and
90 percent humidity and at 62 with 5 % himidity.  It doesn't set
so fast or so hard in the summer.   (Of course, if you overcook it, you're
in for it, and you might as well enjoy it as fudge rocks.)
(I've never made it with air conditioning, sorry!)
