I have used (extensively) the version 2 releases of PC/EDT and (having learned C on a PDP 11/34 under RSX-11M using EDT as the editor) I can vouch for its behavior compared to VAX/EDT. The only function that differed was the create buffer function, and it was a minimal thing to get used to. In the release 3 versions which I never used they sped up file I/O (the program swaps out whatever part of the file is not current so you can edit an infintely large file) and the major file activities are now quite quick, whereas in v2 they were abominably slow. (sound familiar 11/34 users? :-) For $250 you do need to have a good reason, but if you are hooked on EDT (I've been detoxified - now I'm hooked on Emacs!) then it is an *excellent* choice.
