[comp.sources.wanted] Investment Management Software For a PC

stan@hou2f.UUCP (S.GLAZER) (06/23/87)

Can someone out there in netland recommend (hopefully from actual
experience) software to be used in manageing investments? I am aware that
there are many programs available, but it is not clear from all the advertising
hype what they can actually do. One requirement that I have but can not find
is a program that can handle fractional shares and fractional cents. With
dividend reinvestment programs purchasing fractional shares (to four or more
decimal places), at costs in dollars and fractional cents, with the tax basis
different than the cost basis (due to the timing of the purchase with respect
to the dividend payment date) and with discounts (given by the paying company
since they are not using underwriters) and no brokerage fess, it appears that
the commonly available programs are lacking. (Talk about a runaway sentence!)
Other than this, my requirements are not unusual as long as I have a clear
picture of my holdings, their costs, my tax position, and present value. Am
I leaving out some obvious features? It (the program) should also be suitable
for an IBM or the compatible machines. All comments and advice on this
subject would be greatly appreciated.

As I have in the past, I still recommend MECA's
Mayanging Your Money and Managing the Market for tracking
investments and budgets. These programs are great for
	straighforward investment/financial tracking and analysis.
If you're heavy into technical analysis of prices over time
	look elsewhere.
