[comp.sources.wanted] X-windows for non-UNIX boxes?

peter@sugar.UUCP (Peter DaSilva) (07/06/87)

There's a lot of X-windows source floating around. As I understand it,
X-windows is just a subroutine library to provide a standard interface to
different windowing systems. Has anyone ever done an X-windows port for
non-UNIX boxes (specifically, the Amiga. I would add other machines to
the newsgroup list, but this is the only comp.sys."machine-with-windows"
this little node knows about)?

Yes, a port to the Amiga is underway, and some of it is up and running
already. No, it's not being done at ULowell, but it's being done by
somebody who knows the Amiga very well...

I don't know any details on when/how it will be available, but I wanted
you to know it's being done.

X-windows is not just a subroutine library to provide a standard
interface to different windowing systems. X-window is a window system
itself. It is written by the MIT and available through them. For more
information contact Robert Scheiffler (email: RWS@ZERMATT.LCS.MIT.EDU)
there.
