I've recently modified the ARC that was posted some time ago and patched in the changes from ARC 5.20. On the average this allows creating archives in 80% of the time the code based on ARC 5.12 would take. I've tested this successfully on a Vax 750 running BSD 4.3, a Sun3/50 running SunOS 3.2, and an Apollo DN3000 with SR9.5 DOMAIN/IX.
