[net.cooks] Microwave Hot Dogs

randals (06/15/82)

As a computer hacker (that is, someone who can't do anything (even cook)
besides operate a computer CRT), I have trouble cooking. Since I figure
that there are others out there with similar apparent inabilities to cook,
I want to clear it up by providing easy recipes that YOU can do too!

Here's one of my favorites... Microwave Hot Dogs.

First, go to the store and buy a package of hot dogs, a package of hot
dog buns, and a microwave oven. Don't buy an oven with a lot of features...
it only gets confusing. Also, stay away from those that obviously use
microcomputer control... you'll never know when they crash.

Now, open the hot dog bun bag, and remove one of the buns. Just one bun...
it doesn't work to use two or three at once for one hot dog.

Then, open the hot dog package and remove one hot dog. Just one hot dog,
any more and you won't be able to fit it into the bun.

Now place the hot dog into the hot dog bun. It goes the long way, just
like you've seen in the pictures. (The limitations of drawing with CRT
characters prevent me from sending an accurate picture.)

Open the microwave oven's door, and place the hot dog and hot dog bun
into the microwave. Close the door (forgetting to do this makes the
next step not work).

Now, here is the tricky part. Microwave ovens are not all the same.
You'll have to read the manual (ick!!) to figure out how to set the
microwave oven to .... 30 seconds. I'm sorry I can't help out more here.
Then start the oven.

When the oven is done, remove the hot dog. Careful!! It's hot!!

After removing the hot dog from the oven (don't try to do this while it
is still in the oven), add some mustard. Then, eat it!!

Yes, that's right -- that's all there is to it! Simple, huh?

For variations, try hot dog relish instead of mustard.

By the way, the microwave oven is reusable. For the second hot dog,
you don't have to go to the store again.

I hope you enjoyed this recipe. Next time, I'll publish my ever-popular
recipes for Peanut-Butter and Jelly Sandwiches (um-umm-good!) and
those easy-to-make instant soup-in-a-cups!
