[comp.sources.wanted] Superplot

majka@ubc-vision.UUCP (Marc Majka) (09/21/87)

There have been a number of requests for information on Superplot
in the past few days. You will find a descriptive blurb below.

Superplot *may* be available from someone by way of an ftp.
Unfortunately, UBC is not so well connected. The distribution
is also too large (something like 2MB) to mail. Thus the only
distribution is by tape. If you receive the SUN User's Group
tape distribution, wait for a bit. Superplot will be on it.
It you want a copy from me, send a 1/2 inch tape (600ft will do),
a self-addressed mailer, and US$5 (600ft tape or $10 for a big tape).
Canadian postage is the same. Postage outside North America is
about US$15 - US$20. I can write tar or ansitar format tapes.
I will soon be able to write SUN 1/4 tapes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Superplot is a collection of graphics software. The software is based
on a new "plot file" format, known as "Superplot" format, intended to
be similar to the UNIX plot(5) format, with many extensions. The
distribution includes:

* C subroutine library to write Superplot files
* Filters for converting Superplot files to:
    - memory raster
    - PostScript
    - ImPRESS
    - Raster Technologies 1/25
    - SUN bitmap displays
    - UBC-LCV IFF image files
    - NAPLPS.
    - AutoCAD (under development: Need lots of work yet)
* Filters to convert to and from a readable ascii "text" format
* Filter to convert plot(5) format to Superplot format
* Support for using the Hershey vector fonts for label drawing
* Filter for turning text into a plot file
* Changes and new routines for including plots and images in TeX documents
  printed on PostScript printers

Additionally, a simple 3D plot file format is defined, along with the
following software:

* C subroutine library to write 3D plot files.
* Create a Superplot file for a 3D scene, given user-specified viewpoint,
  viewing direction, and camera parameters.
* Filters to convert to and from a readable ascii "text" format.

Some "extra" software and data is included in the distribution:

* Hershey vector font data
* Raster file to PostScript filter
* Programs for creating "Mandelbrot" and synthetic images
* SUN rasterfile animation playback program
* SUN Windows image viewer
* Collection of 3d objects from Randi J. Rost at DEC in Palo Alto
* GNUPLOT Version 1.1

The software is all for free distribution. You may copy any or all
of my programs, as long as you include my name and copyright notice.
The author assumes no responsibility for the code.
