I've got an AT&T 6300+ running Simultask (Unix Sys V R2.5). Recently one of my hard disks developed a bad sector in the partition table. Of course, being an idiot, I have no adequate backup. All the data is still there, but Unix cannot find it. I can read the raw disk device corresponding to the whole disk though. Anyone got a program or set of routines that can read a raw device and interpret what it finds as a filesystem? I'm about 1/2 finished with writing something myself, using the Bach book and the header files as guides, and so far no trouble, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if possible. Please reply directly to rms@gubba.UUCP (...!harvard!spdcc!gubba!rms), since I would guess that nobody else would find this too interesting (except for people trying to crack security on machines whose /dev files aren't properly protected. I swear I'll only use this on my machine, honest!!). Thanks for any help. -- rms
