Hello net-people! Has anyone developed a system (PD-preferably) by which they've been able to keep track of their files on floppy disks (please don't tell me to get a hard disk, that is the next major purchase for me some time later)? I don't really want a disk labeling program. What I want is some kind of program with which I could either (a) print out the directory of the disk (maybe with comments) and/or (b) store this in some kind of file which I could recall at any time. I realize that I could write the code for this myself -- if I had the time -- or simply do dir/w > prn, but I was looking for something slightly more elegant than that. If anyone has seen (or better yet, has) software answering this description, please e-mail or post replies. A program called wssindex, available as shareware on many BBS's, does what you want. It's a high quality program, and is sufficiently fast. Mike Berger Center for Advanced Study University of Illinois berger@clio.las.uiuc.edu {ihnp4 | convex | pur-ee}!uiucuxc!clio!berger

For my money the very best file catalog program is WSSI322.ARC. It's available on most bbs systems. You can download it from my BBS (BOBsBBS 916/929-7511). It will catalog all your diskettes, hard disks, etc. It will even look in archive files and list the contents separately. It has numerous sorting and printing options for reports.
