I have been looking for a "software distribution" program to install on our 3b15. Basically this program would perform similar functions that anonymous ftp does, i.e. to post a list of locally developed (licenced or public domain) software and allow users to browse through and retrieve what they want elec- tronically. As anonymous ftp requires pre-knowledge of what software one wants (i.e. one has to know the name of the software ahead of retrieval), we are hoping to find a program that are more user-friendly or informative (maybe via menu driven mechanism) so that one can easily find out what the listed software are, and what they do to determine if one would like to download any. Downloading should be automatic via uucp after users select or request for the SW. I was told that netlib@anl-mcs.arpa(MCS division of Argone) has a package that does the above functions. In fact, netlib is performing such function for distributing their own SW. I have tried to contact MCS at Argone without much success. Any insights, info, ideas would be greatedly appreciated. heddle@cs.uiuc.edu
