In a gardening catalog I was reading, they were selling "elephant garlic". They said that a single bulb can get up to ONE POUND! They also said the flavor is slightly milder than regular garlic. Has anyone cooked with it, or grown it?

#R:tekid:-43000:zehntel:2500002:000:238 zehntel!cep Sep 16 18:01:00 1982 I have neither cooked with it, grown it, nor eaten it, but I have seen it (on Vancouver Island, BC) and it is indeed large. The plants were over 4 feet and the bulb the size of a grapefruit. Since we were tent camping, I didn't try it...

Yes, I've used elephant garlic. The bulbs are large, and the cloves are large in proportion. The bulb of the one I've used must have weighed at least a pound. However, it was no stronger than ordinary garlic, clove for clove. It makes an entertaining gift. Greg
