[comp.sources.wanted] 'context grep' wanted

mike@medman.UUCP (Michael Kent) (04/14/88)

I'm looking for a 'context grep', similar in concept to the context diff;
that is, if the file 'test.file' contains:

this is
a test
of the
concept
of a
context
grep, which
is similar
to a context
diff.

and I do:

<context grep command> "context" <test.file

I'd get something like:

<possible header stuff>
of the
concept
of a
context
grep, which
is similar
to a context

I should be able to control the number of lines of context that it returns.

If anyone has such a program, or leads on it, please contact me. Thanks.

Years ago I wrote something called "wns" which will perform a grep and
print a window of lines, of user-selectable size, around the match
point(s). If thhis is what you want, I can post it or send it somewhere.
