Sangria Ingredients 1 gal red wine of moderate quality 3 oranges 3 lemons cinnamon, cloves, and whole cardamom sugar to taste Method Wash the oranges and lemons, slice them thinly, and put them in a large pitcher. Pour the wine over the sliced fruit. Add a stick of cinnamon, perhaps a half dozen whole cloves, and a half dozen whole cardamom pods. Let stand for several hours (the longer the better). Chill before serving. Before serving, taste and add sugar as necessary. For this quantity, perhaps 1/2 cup sugar will be necessary. The exact amount depends on the sweetness of the wine and the fruit. However, the sangria will be too sour to drink without some sugar. Notes Sangria is served in tall glasses over ice. Fresh fruit or slices from the pitcher may be poured into the glasses with the punch. The wine used should be some moderate jug wine (do not waste money on good wine); a little sweetness, normally undesirable in a red, is not amiss here. Once the initial batch has been made, more wine may be added as necessary; be sure to resweeten as needed.

Could someone submit the proportions for Sangria? I had some homemade Sangria at a restaurant and the waiter said it contains red wine, brandy, triple sec, orange juice, club soda, and fresh fruit. Susan Shaw allegra!sls
