I am looking for a simple, yet fairly complete terminal emulator
package. By simple I mean, it does not need any fancy features that
would not normally be found in a terminal. By fairly complete I
mean, it should support most of the useful ansi control sequences.
The requirements are:
. run on IBM-PC/XT (other end is a Unix machine).
. support ansi screen control (especially colour)
. pass ALL keyboard input to serial line, ie, no translation
or interpretation of keys (especially control keys, ie. ^S)
. serial port configuration (to 9600 baud)
. after startup, only obscure key combinations should bring up
any menus (ideally, there should be no menus to bring up)
. that's all
There is no need for
. file transfer features, ie, xmodem, kermit, etc.
. modem control
I am prepared to use procomm plus if I must, but it has a couple of
bugs that I find annoying.
The worst is that when you enter a ^S, procomm interprets this and
blocks the screen updates. The application on the unix machine
expects to see the ^S as part of a command sequence. The user
should not be confronted with some (to them) obscure menu asking
them questions when they accidentally hit a key like PgUp.
There may be ways around these bugs (or features), but if a simpler
package is available, then that is what I'd like.
