I am looking for a library/archiver program that is a sort of souped up version of tar that deals only with file archives and not tape archives. The program needs to act more like the Unix filesystem allowing such things as random access, wildcards, the ability to delete files and directories, etc. If you have anything that resembles this I would be glad to hear from you via e-mail.
