[comp.sources.wanted] Looking for compress

dg@lakart.UUCP (David Goodenough) (07/11/88)

Some time ago in (I think) comp.os.cpm (hence the X-post, please
accept my apologies if wrong), someone mentioned an uncompress that
ran on a CP/M (?) machine. To whoever it was: if you read this and
are prepared to send me the sources (if they're copyright I understand)
I'd be very glad to get them.

Yes, I've got a fully working "uncompress" for CP/M-80 machines. It has
been working for the last couple months.

I've been spending some time on it trying to get it to run faster (there
are many "obvious" ways to make it run faster, it's just time consuming
to this (having been recently married, my software-hacking time has dropped
quite a bit).

I'll release it soon (at whatever speed -- "you all" can work on speeding
it up and/or just using it "as is").

Currently, its speed is acceptable for small files (compressed version
being < 30K or so), but starts to take a while for large files (but then
I suppose just doing a "pip file=file2" takes a while under CP/M-80).

The only "trick" is that for me to distribute it, I will mail a copy
to Keith P., so arpanetters and maybe bit_netters can get access to it,
but usenetters who can't access the bitnet server might have trouble.

David: I'll keep your name on file, and I'll try to remember to email
	you a copy directly.
