I have been using in the past the Spenser regcomp routines (thanks henry) and have been 85-90% satisfied with the features, wishing mainly for the closure capability (you know, (string){3,5} type things) . Oh, there were a number of other things that would have been nice, like octal values being able to be supplied in ascii format, etc. but we were able to code around many of these. Now I have a problem. We are porting some code to SunOS. The code was writting with System II regcmp/regex calls all over the place. What I need is either: a) a set of routines which behave like regcmp/regex but use the System V interface (or the BSD - would prefer the former) WHICH ARE TRUELY PUBLIC DOMAIN OR RESTRICTION FREE - i.e. could be used in a commercial product if necessary, b) some information as to how I would go about writing a) or rewriting the code doing these calls to use said routines. Surely I am not the only person to encounter this? Anyone have any help? Thanks! -- Larry W.
