[comp.sources.wanted] Looking for BBS and News software

rynes@isis.CWRU.Edu (Edward M. Rynes Esq.) (01/17/89)

I am looking for pointers to public domain (or otherwise freely
redistributable) Bulletin Board Systems. I would also like to see
a complete description of the new versions of Net News (C news and
TMNN 3.0) If the folks that are working on those projects could
send me the appropriate documentation I would be most grateful.

Why? CWRU is looking into the posibility of providing a Free
community access BBS to the greater Cleveland area. One system
is currently being evaluated but we would like to see how other
systems compare to it.

What? We are looking for a UNIX based BBS capable of serving
hundreds of simultaneous connections out of thousands of registered
users. The system must be able to provide easy access to people
who can't even spell computer. (most engineers ;-) It must also
have "private" boards that only "privileged" users can access.

Any information about availability and ease of use/maintenance
would be most appreciated. Thanks Much!
