[net.music] Record Reviews - Corea, Zappa, and others

A few jazz-ish reviews (some with dubious connections to jazz
indeed):

Stanley Clarke - Let Me Know You (Epic FE38086)
This album has a pitifully dubious connection with jazz.
That is to say, Stanley Clarke has demonstrated in the past
that he can be a wonderfully creative and interesting
musician. This album illustrates neither of these qualities.
For those looking for a sequel to "School Days" or "Journey
	To Love", this ain't it.

Chick Corea - Touchstone (Warner Bros. 23699-1)
Much the same can be said for Chick and this album. As usual
he has a marvelous array of musicians. Regrettably, the
result is Return To Forever at its most pedantic. "Secret
	Agent" it's not.

Bobby McFerrin - Bobby McFerrin (Electra Musician EI-60023)
On the brighter side, here's a new jazz vocalist with a
debut album that is a joy. And I do mean jazz, at its hottest
and at its coolest. And I do mean vocalist; This guy has a
range, a technique and a flare that causes continued delight
throughout the album. He does several popular tunes
including "Moondance" and Orleans' "Dance With Me" along with
some originals. A gem. Many more Bobby.

Frank Zappa - Shut up And Play Your Guitar (3 Record Set Barking
						Pumpkin Records W3X 38289)
This set was originally available as an import or as
individual disks through the mail, now in an affordable,
sturdy package. The music is just as sturdy. Here we have six
sides of instrumental Zappa which will really curl your
hair. The music ranges from the sublime (Stucco Homes) to
the vicious (Pink Napkins) with the callous abandon that his
admirers have come to enjoy over the years. If you still
doubt FZ's ability to play the guitar or just want to annoy
your neighbors I highly recommend this one.

P.S. Consider this another vote of encouragement for more record
	reviews on the net.
