[net.cooks] vegetarians

mat (01/25/83)

Ok now guys, how many of us are vegetarians? Are we going to have to change
the network because of the fact that a few people are offended by the common
and socially accepted practice of eating flesh? Perhaps the vegetarians,
who choose to reject this practice should find a place where they can
communicate without being disgusted by the rest of us.

How about recipes with this type of heading:

Title: Veal Cordon Bleu (contains meat: shift 13)

?

How about encrypting (shift13) meat recipes so us veggies won't
be offended? (only kidding)

Re:	Vegetarians

I really don't see why meat recipes should offend vegetarians (at least
that drastically). I have seen some rather strange recipes which I don't
think I would care to try (roast bear with chocolate sauce for example),
but I would hardly say I was "offended" by the recipe. As long as the
recipe is a *real* recipe which someone is actually likely to make, it
seems to me that it isn't much of an issue (course some people can always
find ways to be offensive...).

BTW, although I'm by no means vegetarian, I don't eat all that much meat
myself...

I'm sorry to add to the flames on vegetarians, but I felt compelled to
respond. First, I am a vegetarian and have been one for my entire life.
Second, I LIKE seeing the meat recipes on the net because I can use
them by substituting textured vegetable protein for the meat. Futhermore,
a cannibal could use the recipe by substituting his favorite meat! :-) I
accept the fact of life that some people eat meat and I can enjoy a meal
eaten next to someone eating meat. In fact, I am an avid fisherman and I
know how to prepare fish to eat. I have made several friends happy by
giving them some fish that I have caught. So, KEEP the good recipes
coming!

May be - we non vegeterians - should eat one of them (the vegetarians) -
to see whether their meat tastes different.....................
