[comp.sources.wanted] vi in a window

I'm in search of a hack that would let me define a curses
window and then use it as stdin/out etc for an exec'd program.

Basically, I'm looking for some way to "pop up" vi in a
window on the user's screen. Does anybody know of an "easy"
way to do this? The only constraint is that it must run
on a sysV based machine (masscomp), so something based on
screen seems out of the question.
