In an attempt to do my part in preventing the senseless, and unnecessary generation of laser printer paper waste, I am in search of a POSTSCRIPT "previewer" that would allow me to view a POSTSCRIPT formatted file on a VAXstation 2000 running VMS and DEC's Virtual Windowing System (VWS). We have a variety of uses for such a tool, since we have numerous packages that produce POSTSCRIPT output. I know that there is a POSTSCRIPT previewer that is part of DECwindows, but it may be a long while before we switch to DECwindows here because we are running certain applications that are *very* VWS dependent. (Note: DECwindows POSTSCRIPT Previewer did NOT even get shipped with VMS V5.1 anyway.) I'm interested in locating any of the following: 1) a PREVIEWER already exists for VWS 2) A PREVIEWER that is so generic that it interprets POSTSCRIPT and puts bits into a virtual memory bitmap --- we could then write something that could drive the bitmap to the screen via VWS. 3) Other helpful hints or ideas. I have found an X-version of a POSTSCRIPT previewer, but I'd prefer not to go to all the work of porting it to VMS, removing all of the X-isms and changing the X-routine calls to VWS. I have also been told about GHOSTSCRIPT, but I'd prefer not to have to support both a vendor suppiled "C" compiler and a "GNU" C compiler.
